COST:
  • $5.00 per person per 1 hour session. We ask that you pay in advance on a monthly basis. This means $20.00 per month. If there are 5 class session days in the month, we will not meet on the 1st session day of the month. This keeps the fees to an even $20.00 per month and gives us a little time off to practice.
  • Money paid for class is nonrefundable and if you miss a scheduled class then you may not be able to make it up. Often there are other concurrent classes going and you can come to any one of them to make up what you missed, however the other classes may not be at the same level as the one that you started in.
  • You are encouraged to come to multiple classes and you can change to another class any time that you wish. You should stay with your starting class until you have the basics but then you can begin coming to another more advanced class any time. Right now we have 5 classes going and you can come to any or all of them. Once you pay your $20.00 monthly fee you can come to any class that you wish including the Band classes on Saturdays.

STARTING CLASS DESCRIPTION:

  • This Class is for beginners starting with little or no experience and will include reading music as well as tablature, playing chords, basic music theory, and playing songs.
  • Instrumentation: keyboard/piano, violin, viola, cello, guitar, mandolin, baritone ukulele, tenor guitar, banjo, trumpet, trombone, clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, french horn, flute electric and acoustic double bass.
  • You will learn the proper posture for holding your instrument, and the proper technique for playing your instrument
  • There is no charge for the music. That's right, the music is free. All music necessary for the class will be sent to your email address in .pdf files. You simply print it out and bring it to class. There will be a substantial amount of music sent to you over the 3 to 4 months that the class is normally in session. You are encouraged to to get a 3 ring binder (notebook) and purchase a pack of 25-30 clear plastic insert pages with which to insert and organize your music.
  • Your music is divided into 5 categories:
    1. Exercises: (Rhythms-Tonguing, Picking & Bowing, Tablature-reading and playing)
    2. Chord Progressions
    3. Scales
    4. Songs
    5. Lessons ( reading and playing standard musical notation, posture and technique for playing your individual instrument)
  • In this class you can move at your own pace because the music is arranged and written in several different parts at graduated skill levels. Thus for each piece of music there will be an easy to play part, a slightly more difficult part,... and so forth. You can choose the level that you want to play at and when you can play all the music at a lower level then you can move up and start playing the same or similar music at a higher (more difficult) level whenever you wish.
  • You can move out of this class into another more advanced class anytime that you wish. You can come as many times as you wish to as many different classes as you wish. Once you sign up, you may come to any and all classes that you wish to. Your monthly fee will still remain at $20.00 per month.
SIGN-UP FOR CLASS:

  • Simply call (478-474-4264) or email to (yams@bellsouth.net) and let us know that you want to take the class. We will sign you up and send you the music for the first class via email. It is absolutely necessary that you let me know otherwise you will not have any music to play from on the first day.
AGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • 9 and up CLASS: If you are a beginner then you should be at least 9 years old. You may start a little younger if you already play. Younger children (age 6-8 years) can come to this class only if they are accompanied by a parent or someone older who can help them to find their music, place their finders, and in general keep up with the class.

  • YOUNGER CHILDREN'S CLASS: Ages 6-8. This class moves much slower than the Older class ( 9 and over). It covers some of the same basic material using the same music and songs. In addition to the basic music material other activities such as sidewalk chalk drawing of musical symbols, forming musical symbols out of modeling clay, marching, and playing musical games to foster interest and learning, and in general, to help keep the attention of kids at this age. This class uses mostly percussion instrument ( instruments that are struck such as bells, drums, xylophone, or tambourine.

COMMENTS:

  • Electric Guitars: If you choose to play electric guitar then you must furnish your own amp and lead chord. Also - be warned, KEEP THE VOLUME DOWN! Electric guitars have a tendency to get louder, and louder, and louder. I will be on you like "ugly on an ape" if you keep turning it up. The acoustic guitars, violins, mandolins, banjos, and ukes can easily be blown away by one single electric guitar player playing too loud....even with a small 10 watt amp. So be considerate of others and keep it turned down. Also keep the amp close to and facing you. Do not point the amp towards me or towards another student in class.
  • If you play trumpet or trombone, then you will need a cup or straight mute. This is because these instruments are very loud and can drown out other instruments.
  • Young America Music Schools does have Rent-to-Own programs for keyboards, violins, and several other instrument. If you would like to find out more about doing a Rent-to-Own on an instrument then just come by or give us a call. Everyone must have their own instrument to practice on at home and bring to class. We do have a few keyboards for the keyboard students to play on while they are in class only. This is because many keyboard students have a piano at home to practice on, and of course they cannot bring it with them to class every week.
  • Guitar players will need to purchase a good capo to use in later classes.
Hope to see you in class!
